Photowalking

http://thomashawk.com/2007/09/principles-and-guidelines-for-modern.html

From Wikipedia:
"Photowalking is the act of walking with a camera for the main purpose of taking pictures of things that the photographer may find interesting.

While not exclusive to digital photography, in practice digital photography makes Photowalking more realistic as a hobby due to its experimental nature, the number of pictures typically taken in the process, and the possibility of post-processing afterward.

While closely related to Street photography, photowalking is differentiated by the main impetus being to photograph things of interest rather than people specifically. It is also often done as a method to practice and improve one's own photography skills rather than a with specific focus on documentary photography.

Photowalking is also a form of exercise as it can take the photographer over the course of several miles as they wander a particular site or neighborhood.

Photowalking is also often associated with on-line photo sharing."

Latest News:

28/09/2008: Sunday morning and again I was out of bed early to go and take some photos. This morning I started out over at the Tailrace park near the Trevallyn power station, early on it was a bit overcast and foggy but this soon cleared up to a nice morning. I took over 250 shots this morning mainly of various birds around the tailrace and then I headed over to city park for some photos of the monkeys (28/09/2008 photos)

27/09/2008: This morning it was another early rise for me as I headed up Mt Barrow for some photography. After taking on the gravel / dirt road to the picnic area (and only meeting 1 car coming the other way I had to avoid) I was disappointed to find the road to the top was closed so I was stuck taking photos at the half way point.
I went for a bit of walk around a walking track near the picnic area and managed to get some ok photos. On my way home I was planning on heading up the discovery trail but I also found this was only open between 10am - 6pm so I gave up and headed home.

20/09/2008: Early this morning I got out of bed at 5:30am and headed out for a few hours of photo taking around Launceston.
I started at the bottom of Park street near the Tamar yacht club but the light was not great and with the overcast sky the photos were not coming out as well as what I had been expecting, after a short while I drove over to the tail race at Riverside near the Trevallyn power station where I took some photos of some ducks and boats on the tamar before heading up to Freeland's lookout in Riverside, I found the sun was in the wrong spot for any worthwhile photos here, next I stopped at city park but it was too early to get any photos of the monkeys so I headed home with 140 photos to edit and PP, please see some of these below

15/09/2008: Photos from our trip to Sydney have just been uploaded

30/08/2008: Today some of the Tasmanian members of the http://www.ausphotography.net.au forum meet up in Launceston for an afternoon of photography and a general catch up. We started by all meeting up at Launceston city park near the monkey enclosure, after spending some time taking photos of the monkeys and city park in general we all walked across the river to the Inveresk rail yeards were we photographed the old buildings and blacksmiths workshops. Next we drove up to the bottom of Park street near the Tamar Yacht Club, here we practiced some low light water and sky shots before all heading to Royal on George for a few drinks and a very nice meal.

I use a Nikon D40 DSLR with a 18-135mm lens, 55-200mm VR lens and a 500mm F8 manual focus lens I got off eBay for $200 for my photography, all this lives in a Lowepro Flipside 200 backpack. I also use Adobe Photoshop CS2 for post production and editing work.
